Cockpit Mods

Ambient Targeting System

Created to be the last word in command and control, the Ambient Targeting System is a House Marik invention that works similarly to a C3 network in reverse. Where C3 gives bonus coordination against targets within the C3 radius, the ATS gives nearby allies targeting aid by linking the carrying unit's expanded targeting system to the allied unit's and calculating targets accordingly. The ATS has a severe downside though, it makes the carrying unit's personal accuracy much worse as so much of its computing is dedicated to ally units that it calculates its own attacks poorly.

Bracing Cockpit

This unique cockpit allows the equipped unit to perform a weapon brace, setting up fire for subsequent turns, but at a severe movement cost, essentially becoming a turret for a brief period of time. This does however grant the mech's weapons a great deal of stabiliy. All the mech's weapons benefit from the boosted accuracy.

All 'Mechs come equipped with a stock cockpit configuration, which can be upgraded for improved performance. The Command Console adds a complete set of controls for a second MechWarrior with added command and control facilities, allowing for better Lance coordination by upgrading initiative. Star League-vintage Command Consoles are very rare by 3025 because 'Mechs equipped in this way were favoured targets in battle.

Sanctuary Drone Interface

The Sanctuary Worlders do not use human pilots in mechs for normal combat. Instead, they developed a remote-control drone interface that humans pilot from the safety of a home base. The drone cockpit provides many benefits, such as sensor and sight range bonuses, excellent protection against pilot feedback injuries, a small defensive ECM field, and even link together into an overlapping sensor network that offers improved targeting numbers for all units in the network.

Manufacturer: Sanctuary Droneworks
Tonnage: 2
Critical Slots: 1
Install Location: Cockpit
Value: 870,000
Gear ID: Gear_Cockpit_Sanctuary_Drone

Equipped Effects:

  • +12 injuries resisted
  • +2 Resolve Gain for this Unit
  • +1 Defense from ECM. This ECM field extends in a 30m radius from the unit.
  • Drone Network Interface. This acts as a specialized C3 network. See the C3 page for more information on C3 network benefits.

Critical Effects:

  • DESTROYED: 'Mech is incapacitated

Notes:

  • The remote interface insulates the pilot from Neurofeedback and injury but sufficiently severe feedback, such as from mech or cockpit destruction, can still result in pilot injury or death.
  • The Sanctuary Drone Interface is exclusively found as fixed gear on Sanctuary mech variants. It cannot be salvaged or purchased.

Notes:

  • This cockpit frees up a total of three tons: two tons from the cockpit and one ton from the removal of the Life Support B slot

Torso Mount Cockpit

The Torso Cockpit has long been a dream of BattleMech designers. By moving the MechWarrior to a more heavily protected area, an army would be able to keep its more experienced soldiers in the fight a lot longer. The idea remained a dream until the unlocking of the Helm Memory Core provided a jump-start to many technological projects.

Manufacturer: Dark Mirage
Tonnage: 4
Critical Slots: 2
Install Location: Center Torso
Value: 620,000
Gear ID: Gear_Cockpit_Torsomount

Equipped Effects:

  • Cockpit moved to center torso section
  • +1 initiative
  • +10 pilot health
  • Pilot immune to bleedouts

Critical Effects:

  • DESTROYED: 'Mech is incapacitated

Notes:

  • Moves the life support slots into the side torsos. This has the unintended side-effect of disabling the Clan quirk, so if you put a Torso Mount Cockpit into a Clan 'mech it will lose its acuracy and speed bonuses but also its melee accuracy penalty. If you want to turn a Kodiak into a melee monster this gear is essential

If you want to turn a Kodiak into a melee monster this gear can help with that

3rd Gen. Cockpit

Superficially similar to the standard 'Mech cockpits of the day, the 3rd Generation Cockpit comes with a bonus that normal cockpits do not. Anti-Air FCS

Specialized pieces of equipment, the Anti-Air Fire Control Systems were designed to give pilots increased chances to tag flying or otherwise airborne units. They found limited acceptance on the battlefield due to a relative paucity of combat-rated aerial units, though it did find a home with anyone who regularly faced down Land-Air Mechs.

Targeting Computers

FCS Precision Computer

This is an advanced targeting computer called the FCS Precision Computer. This system provides a MechWarrior with the ability to breach past any defense. In addition, the Precision Computer slightly reduces the effects of weapon recoil on accuracy.

FCS Location Designator

A specific piece of equipment, the Location Designator FCS permits a mech pilot to single out a location on an enemy unit and attempt to place heavy fire into that specific location. This ability is extremely coveted by pilots but comes with a cost. Because of the finely-tuned precision scanners, the Location Designator FCS does not track targets exceptionally well. In practical terms, this means that the FCS merely permits general targeting of the location, not increased accuracy while targeting that location. Still, simply having the ability is generally acceptable to pilots and the Location Designator FCS was an instant hit among mechwarriors.

Manufacturer: Mendham Electronics
Tonnage: 1
Critical Slots: 1
Install Location: Cockpit
Value: 750,000
Gear ID: Gear_TargetingTrackingSystem_CalledShot

Equipped Effects:

  • Enables targeting precise locations during called shot action

FCS Multi-Trac

A specialized piece of equipment, the Multi-Trac Fire Control System was designed to give pilots on-the-fly multiple targeting capability. Based on the system found in the Thunderbolt, the FCS Multi-Trac proved a moderate success with pilots and was rolled out quickly to markets across the Inner Sphere. However, the FCS Multi-Trac improves over the Thunderbolt's default system in one important way. By using a complex network of algorithms and calculations, the FCS generally provides a small damage boost to weapons fire. The marketing describes it as a way to keep your damage up, despite spreading it between multiple targets.

Manufacturer: Mendham Electronics
Tonnage: 1
Critical Slots: 1
Install Location: Cockpit
Value: 750,000
Gear ID: Gear_TargetingTrackingSystem_MultiTrac
