Description
The Primitive WSP-1 was introduced in the very early days of the Star League as a platform for deploying the then-newly developed Mech Jump Jets. Making a dramatic entrance to its demonstration, the WSP-1 was immediately approved and showed its worth over its long lifetime of service. Still, constructed with primitive components, the WSP-1 was later replaced with the more modern WSP-1A.

Description
Introduced in 2464 as an attempt by General Mechanics to create a fast and maneuverable recon BattleMech for the Terran Hegemony, the Wasp was revolutionary for being the first 'Mech capable of jumping, sporting a prototype Jump Jet system; however, the system was not perfected for most of the next decade. With improvements in production and Jump Jet technology, the modern WSP-1A Wasp began production in 2471. Centuries later, it is still considered a valued asset for recon work and is one of the most numerous 'Mechs in existence.

Description
Developed in response to logistical attrition during the later years of the First Succession War, this House Davion variant developed in 2823 exchanges the SRM-2 launcher for two ChisComp 32 Small Lasers in the left torso and a Olympian Flamer in the left leg. While firing these additional weapons leads to an increased heat output, it is not enough to pose a serious risk.

Description
Another variant intended to ease logistical requirements as the First Succession War dragged on, House Kurita's 1K Wasp was introduced in 2818, improving protection while sacrificing firepower. It retains the medium laser but replaces the missile launcher with a SperryBrowning Machine Gun and one ton of reloads in the left torso. The saved weight was used to upgrade the armor by half a ton.

Description
A variant of the Wasp produced by Hellspoint for House Liao in 2799, the 1L replaced the medium laser and SRM-2 launcher with a single Holly SRM-4 launcher carried in the right arm supplied with a single ton of reloads in the right torso. Envisioning a variant highly adaptable to the raiding actions of the First Succession War, the Capellan Strategios deployed the 1L with multiple munition types based on their intended mission role, such as incendiary or gas SRMs for anti-infantry support or smoke SRMs for recon-concealment. The reduction in overall firepower made the 1L a adequate though not spectacular combatant.

This Wasp keeps to the general feel of the WSP-1A, with an arm mounted laser and good ground and jump speed, but uses rediscoveries in armor and structure technologies to upgrade that laser into a Medium Pulse Laser. It also drops the SRM 2 pack for a pair of Small Lasers in the right torso and a flamer in the left torso.

Description
Jointly produced by the Capellan Confederation, the Magistracy of Canopus, and Taurian Concordat, the Wasp -3L redefines the aging design's focus by shifting to a stealthy, difficult to hit scout, rather than the cheap one of days past. While not expensive, the new Wasp has much more endurance than its predecessor with the inclusion of Stealth Armor, and greater range in the form of an ER Medium Laser. The SRM-2 was replaced with a Rocket Launcher-10 for situations where the ERML is not sufficient. Intended solely for its three producers, the appearance of the -3L in the hands of the Word of Blake is cause for concern.

Description
The post-Helm Memory Core House Marik variant introduced in 3051, the 3M Wasp upgrades the chassis to Endo Steel and the armor to Ferro-Fibrous. This variant carries a medium pulse laser in its right arm and a single SRM-2 launcher in the right torso. It also drops the armor protection by half a ton from the -1A despite the upgrade to Ferro-Fibrous. Otherwise, it's a Wasp, with all that that implies.

Description
The rebirth of the Terran Hegemony brought with it a need for a restarted military sector among the core worlds of the Inner Sphere. To meet the new Hegemony's demand for material, the various corporations of the Inner Sphere got right to work on new variants for the Hegemony's war machine. One such design is the WSP-3R, an advanced scout design. Built on a 120-rated Light Fusion Engine and an Endo-Steel frame, the -3R's main purpose in battle is to carry a HISC Viral Jammer into combat to disrupt enemy communications. For firepower, it carries only a lone Medium X-Pulse Laser, limiting the design to a harasser role.

Description
The WSP-3W, produced for the Wolf's Dragoons in 3050, is a fresh take on the venerable scouting mech. Dropping the missile rack and the medium laser, it gains 4 Small Lasers (two in the left leg, two in the left torso) and a pair of Small Pulse Lasers in the right arm. To pay for these gains, it upgrades the armor to Ferro-Fibrous but drops the overall amount to a mere 2 tons, making the -3W one of the worst armored mechs on the battlefield.

Description
Built with Prototype Endo-Steel and a Prototype XL engine, the WSP-4PA is designed to do one thing and one thing only: bring a massive Rocket Launcher-40 to bear on its foes. The attached ammo feed that gives the rockets endurance is just a bonus, but a welcome one to be sure. A solitary Medium Laser keeps the rockets company and serves combat roles should the rockets run out of ammo.

Description
Designed by the Taurian Concordat for their garrison units during the FedCom Civil War, the Wasp-4T is an interesting mix between super primitive technology and cutting edge gear. Powered by a 100 rated XL engine, the -4T is armed with a trio of Medium Lasers, two Pulse versions. For its main punch though, the mech has 40 Rocket tubes, 10 each in the right arm, both side torsos, and the left leg. The mech is well armored allowing it to stay in the fight after other light mechs retreat and keeps standard Wasp speed and jump profiles.

Description
The WSP-4W is the successor to the WSP-3W from Wolf's Dragoons, who had bad experiences with the -3W's combat performance. Armed for the changing battlefield, the -4W proved an adept, if unexciting, scout and was put into extended service by the Dragoons. Armed with a pair each of ER Medium Lasers and Small Pulse Lasers, the -4W's combat record was satisfactory for its role.

Description
Created by a disgraced Clan technician who defected to the Lyran Commonwealth along with a DropShip full of stolen components, the Yellowjacket was originally just a passion project, an experiment to see how many weapons could be wired together in a Wasp's arm mount. After some testing though, the technician realized that it would make a formidable arena design and sold it to a Solaris stable for a princely sum. The Yellowjacket is built with Clan-spec components: an XL engine, Endo-Steel structure, Ferro-Fibrous armor, and Clan DHS. The weapons are bizarre but potent: 14 ER Micro Lasers slice apart anything it faces in the arena.
