Description
The venerable Hunchback is famous for its AC/20-carrying ways but the Star League looked at the HBK-4G and decided they could do even better. Thus, the HBK-2G was developed, a Hunchback carrying two AC/20s. It took an XL engine and Endo-Steel skeleton to provide the weight and even then the 'Mech shed almost half its armor but they did it. While the HBK-2G was considered a failure, it went with Kerensky on the Exodus and inspired the Hunchback IIC. ComStar and the Word of Blake also put the design into service after finding a test bunker with several dozen in storage.

The Hunchback 2CS4C is a field modification made by ComStar for combat against the Clans that swaps the heavy autocannon and medium lasers for a Gauss Rifle and an ER Large Laser. This variant first saw service at Tukayyid against Clan Nova Cat, where it performed with distinction.

Description
The Hunchback is famous for carrying the largest autocannons and being a generally deadly and versatile chassis. To that end, Periphery mech designers took the venerable Hunchback and replaced the autocannon with a Thumper Artillery Cannon along with two torso-mounted Medium Lasers (bringing the total lasers mounted to four). When combined with the design's 15 standard heat sinks, the HBK-4A runs cool and hits extremely hard but does it on a Periphery-friendly budget, ensuring that the major Periphery realms adopted the -4A in plentiful numbers.

A somewhat rarely seen variant of the Hunchback, the HBK-4B swaps the large autocannon of the 4G for a Large Binary Laser and some extra heat sinks. It also includes two more Medium Lasers, bringing the total up to four. With this all energy loadout, the Hunchback HBK-4B is a potent and inexpensive Periphery brawler design.

Description
Modified to aid with indirect fire support as well as being able to act as a guardian for fire support lances, the HBK-4J succeeds at both roles. Description
A fairly common Periphery refit of the Hunchback, the -5H is based on the classic HBK-4G and retains that 'Mech's AC/20 and twin Medium Lasers. However, it removes the Small Laser and 1.5 tons of armor in order to mount three Rocket Launcher-20 racks in the left torso for an incredible one-two punch (AC/20 + 60 rockets will destroy just about anything after all). The -5H proved a popular variant and proliferated through the larger Periphery states.

The 5M Hunchback is a simple upgrade of the original 4G model. The most notable changes saw the heat sinks upgraded to double-strength models, while the small laser was upgraded to a Small Pulse Laser and CASE was added to protect against ammunition explosions. Originally a refit line converted to full production, the -5S is a complete overhaul of the Hunchback design developed by Norse-Storm BattleMechs in 3058. The structure has been modified to use Endo Steel construction techniques, the engine has been upgraded to a Light Fusion Engine, and four Jump Jets were added for increased mobility. The 'Mech carries, as its primary weapon, an LB-X Autocannon/20 with CASE-protected ammunition supported by two medium pulse lasers and a single small laser.

This variant of the venerable Hunchback uses an endo steel chassis and 300-rated XL engine to save weight and allow it to reach a top speed of 96 km/h. It carries an ER medium laser in each arm and a single SRM-6 in the left torso. The main hitting power comes from an LB 20-X autocannon in the right torso. The SRM has a ton of ammunition, while the autocannon has two tons of ammo. It is protected by 10 tons of armor and carries 10 double heat sinks.

Designed for the arenas of Solaris VII, the Hunchback HBK-6V is a modern take on the Succession War era HBK-4P variant, affectionately known as the Discoback. Where the -4P was equipped with a large hunch of Medium Lasers, the HBK-6V uses less lasers but makes them all much more advanced, with a trio of Medium Variable-Speed Pulse Lasers taking top billing. A pair of ER Medium Lasers and an ER Small Laser back them up, while 13 DHS and a 250-rated XL engine provide power. 5 Jump Jets give unexpected mobility, ensuring the -6V is never caught unprepared in the arena.

A modern redesign of the 4P, the 7P Hunchback upgrades the engine to a light model, the heatsinks to doubles, and is built around an endo-steel skeleton. All those weight savings let it mount the original's energy array, as well as the deadly but difficult to use Bombast PPC, with a capacitor. The 7P requires a skilled pilot, but it has immense damage potential.

Built around the gigantic Rotary UAC/20, the HBK-DIE was named after what normally happens to people that either fight against or drive one of these Hunchbacks. The Rotary UAC/20 is huge, taking an entire torso and also requiring fragile Composite structure and brittle and bulky Heavy Ferro-Fibrous armor to be fitted. The 6 tons of ammo are relatively paltry for such a thirsty weapon. Still, one salvo at full power from the Rotary UAC/20 can instantly vaporize just about anything.

Description
Designed for a very different need from the standard Hunchback II, the HBK-2-6B brings a battery of Bombard Cannons to bear against its foes. A pair each of Bombard/9s and Bombard/3s provide easy modulation of ammunition types and expenditures for the discerning MechWarrior while 6 tons of ammunition provides plenty of options. A paltry pair of Medium Modal Lasers back up the Bombards at close range, though the Hunchback II can just as easily throw hands instead.

Description
Built in secret by the Mallard Republic to help test out their Mass Driver weapon system, the HBK-2-6X ports around a Medium Mass Driver for maximum effectiveness. Armed with 2 tons of ammo, the gigantic weapon can flatter just about anything at any range. A trio of Twin-Linked Lasers provide backup for the Mass Driver though they're largely unnecessary. A piece of Mk. 4 Modular Plating and more tonnage of armor keep the driver safe from return fire while 13 DHS keep the mech cold. A Sanctuary XL provides motive power, though the -6X is not a fast design.

Description
This variant of the Hunchback was based roughly on the modern Hunchback HBK-6S, modified by a mercenary with a sense of humor. Replacing the Hunchback's mighty fists with a set of Solaris VII Claws, the -SH hits incredibly hard in melee. For firepower at range it keeps the mammoth LB-20X Autocannon while adding a Clan-grade Streak SRM-4 for extra punch against light mechs. Otherwise, the design is fairly standard, cleaving the stock HBK-6S standard.
