Description
First introduced by the Terran Hegemony in 2568, the Phoenix Hawk was one of the most well known BattleMechs in the Inner Sphere. The 'Mech began life when Orguss Industries realized that it could reinforce the Stinger chassis to create a larger version, one with the same speed and maneuverability as the Stinger but with superior armor, firepower and electronics. Though not without its own drawbacks, the Phoenix Hawk quickly became the standard by which all other reconnaissance 'Mechs were measured.

Description
Referred to as the Phoenix Hawk Special, the 1b was introduced in 2760 for the Star League's Royal units. It utilized an XL Engine as well as Endo Steel for its chassis, which allowed the designers to upgrade its weaponry. The pistol-like laser was upgraded to an ER PPC, while a swivel-mounted ER Large Laser found its way onto the right torso. A Guardian ECM Suite in the center torso improved the 1b's defense.

Description
Made by ComStar for the Battle of Tukayyid out of damaged Phoenix Hawk chassis that ComStar had in storage, the PHX-1bC proved its worth on the battlefield as a premier scouting platform against the Clans. Armed with the PHX-1b's ER Large Laser and pair of Medium Lasers, the -1bC takes a twist on normal Phoenix Hawks and adds a Narc Launcher for accurate ally targeting and a Flamer for starting fires and denying the Clans cover. A Guardian ECM is carried over from the -1b. The -1bC performed well enough that ComStar kept it in service post-Tukayyid.

Description
The 1D variant of the Phoenix Hawk was commonly used by the forces of House Davion. Introduced in 2856, it removes both of the machine guns and the ammunition and replaces them with two additional heat sinks. While removing a small amount of the 'Mech's short-range firepower and a powerful set of weapons against infantry, the additional heat sinks made the 1D's heat load more manageable.

Description
An early Clan refit of the venerable Phoenix Hawk, the PHX-1EC mates early Clan prototype weaponry to an Inner Sphere Phoenix Hawk chassis. An Improved Large Laser and twin Early Clan (EC) ER Medium Lasers provide no-frills firepower while an Inner Sphere AMS supplements the mech's defenses. Otherwise, it is the same as other Phoenix Hawks of the era: fast, maneuverable, moderately well armored.

Description
The 1K variant was particularly favored by House Kurita, though when it was introduced in 2603 it represented a departure from the traditional thinking of the Phoenix Hawk. By removing all jump jets from the 'Mech, room is freed up to install three additional heat sinks and another one and a half tons of armor. The machine guns and ammunition have also been removed from the design and replaced with a single Small Laser carried in the center torso.

Description
A highly recognizable and famous design, the Phoenix Hawk couldn't escape Periphery notice forever. Today, many Pixies in the edges of the Periphery have been refit to the -1PA standard. Armed simply with a Large Chem Laser and twin standard Medium Lasers, the -1PA's real edge in combat comes from the Heavy Plating Armor it is clad in that gives it unexpected endurance in combat. While it doesn't set any records or blow away the competition, the -1PA is a clean and effective design.

Description
The 3D variant of this 'Mech was based on the 1D used by Davion forces. It was built as one of a slew of redesigns using recovered lostech. The 'Mech utilized Endo Steel construction techniques and a Extra-Light engine to free up weight and space for a number of improvements. The 'Mech carried a pair of ER Large Lasers and a pair of Medium Pulse Lasers split between both arms. With the machine guns and their ammunition removed, this allowed two additional heat sinks to be added, and all single heat sinks were exchanged for double strength models.

The 3M variant of the 'Mech was also introduced in 3048, built by Earthwerks Incorporated from their Keystone factory and using upgrades based on rediscovered Star League technology. First, the internal structure of the 'Mech has been redesigned to utilize an Endo Steel chassis. The engine was then replaced with a 270 XL and the heat sinks were upgraded to double heat sinks. The 'Mech carried two ER Large Lasers as its primary weapons and two Medium Pulse Lasers for close in work, with one of each mounted in either arm. Finally, an Anti-Missile System replaced the right-arm machine gun, with two tons of both AMS and machine gun reloads carried in the CASE-protected left torso.

Description
The 3S model, first deployed in 3042, was another upgrade using rediscovered technology that attempted to make the Phoenix Hawk even more effective for reconnaissance. The engine was upgraded to an ExtraLight version and ten double heat sinks improved heat management. The overall armor protection was increased by one ton and replaced with Ferro-Fibrous armor. The primary weapon on the 'Mech was a Large Pulse Laser built into the right arm, though it still retained the two medium lasers and machine guns of the original. Additionally an anti-missile system was mounted on the right arm, with its two tons of ammo protected by CASE in the left torso. Its primary difference from other variants introduced during the time period was the addition of a MASC system.

Description
The product of difficult negotiations between Vicore Industries and Ceres Metals, the Phoenix Hawk -4L is a radical departure from its forebears. The incorporation of Stealth Armor necessitated an entire overhaul of the mech's armor arrangement, granting the new model an entirely new silhouette. Otherwise, the -4L is broadly similar to the weaponry of its predecessors, carrying an ER Large Laser, two ER Medium Lasers and a pair of Machine Guns for anti-infantry defense. This high tech model has become popular across all the Trinity States as well as with groups like the Word of Blake.

Description
Constructed by Ceres Metals as a testbed for the new Medium X-Pulse Laser, the PXH-4X never saw wide production. Built around a Light Fusion Engine to saves weight while keeping survivability high, the -4X's armaments are simple. A trio of Medium X-Pulse Lasers in each arm provide respectable close-range firepower. 13 double heat sinks struggle to keep the heat contained while six jump jets let the -4X vault up to 180 meters in a go. The -4X saw limited production but ultimately was sidelined by Ceres' later Phoenix Hawk variants.

Description
Developed as an alternative model to the -4L due to worsening relation with the Taurian Concordat, the -5L takes advantage of more homegrown Capellan technology than its predecessor. The armament was slightly reduced by dropping the ER Large Laser, the Machine Guns and a heat sink in favor of a Plasma Rifle while retaining the ER Medium Lasers, turning the Phoenix Hawk into an excellent vehicle and infantry hunter.

Description
The rebirth of the Terran Hegemony brought with it a need for a restarted military sector among the core worlds of the Inner Sphere. To meet the new Hegemony's demand for material, the various corporations of the Inner Sphere got right to work on new variants for the Hegemony's war machine. One such design is the PXH-5R, built on an advanced Endo-Composite frame around a 270-rated XL engine. Armed for all contingencies with a Large X-Pulse Laser and four Medium X-Pulse Lasers, 14 DHS struggle to keep the heat contained. An XL Gyro provides extra free tonnage for the warload.

Description
Another Davion upgrade of the PXH-3D, the 6D variant was built using an endo steel chassis and carried 10 tons of armor for protection. Introduced in the 3060s, it carried as its primary weapon an ER PPC, giving it incredible range. The ER PPC was backed up by four ER Medium Lasers, all of which were tied to a targeting computer, allowing the 6D to stay back and act in direct fire support and sniper roles.

Description
The 7S Phoenix Hawk was introduced in the 3060s for House Steiner, using a new light engine for power and a MASC system to augment its ground speed. The 'Mech was built around an endo steel structure and was protected by nine tons of ferro-fibrous armor. The 7S carried a Large Pulse Laser as its primary weapon and four Medium Lasers for close range work. The weapons were rounded out with a Small Laser located in the 'Mech's head.

Description
Developed by someone named, for real, Biff McStrongjaw, the PXH-99 is the most absurd example of taking something to an extreme that has ever been seen on the battlefield. With a mandate of being completely and utterly survivable, the PXH-99 reduces the engine to a standard 45-rated engine and makes use of Hardened Armor combined with multple instances of Modular Armor across the 'Mech to create the most durable Phoenix Hawk imaginable. Thanks to two Improved Jump Jets, the PXH-99 can just barely move under its own power. The weaponry suite of a Large X-Pulse Laser and two each ER Medium and ER Small Lasers seems relatively mundane by comparison.

Description
Produced during the Clan's Golden Century, the Phoenix Hawk C is a full Clantech rebuild of that venerable design. While it keeps the same movement profile as the earlier Phoenix Hawks, the C changes the mission profile to long-range raiding and sniping thanks to its twin torso-mounted Ultra AC/2s. A pair each of Medium Pulse Lasers and Machine Guns provide token close-range defense. An XL engine and Endo-Steel pay for the heavy ballistics. The PXH C was not a wide-reaching success but did inform many later designs of the Clans.
