Description
Based on the original Hermes, the Hermes II is a long time mainstay of the Free Worlds League, where it serves as the FWLM's premiere scout. Though not as fast as lighter offerings, its thick armor means that it is far more robust than most potential foes. The -2M model, also known as the 'Mercury' is a specialist model in SAFE's Dark Shadows 'Mech force, and trades out the Autocannon for a pair each of Medium Lasers and Machine Guns, and uses the leftover tonnage to increase the Mercury's ground speed to a maximum of 118 kmh.

Description
Based on the original Hermes, the Hermes II is a long time mainstay of the Free Worlds League, where it serves as the FWLM's premiere scout. Though not as fast as lighter offerings, its thick armor means that it is far more robust than most potential foes. At one point the most common alternate variant of the Hermes II, the -4K, also known as the Hermes III, replaces all of the standard model's weaponry with a pair of Large Lasers, giving it heavy firepower in return for a potentially crippling heat load., Released in an incomplete state to quickly fulfill an SLDF contract, the original Hermes eventually found a grudging place in militia forces across the Inner Sphere where its issues weren't as crippling. With the return of advanced technology, the Hermes became viable in front line units as a fast, if lightly armored, scout once again. Designed for export to the Draconis Combine, the -4K model is broadly similar to the -4S, using an XL Engine, Ferro-Fibrous and Endo-Steel components to maximize available weight. Where the -4K differs is its choice of weaponry as it is armed with six ER Medium Lasers and an ER Small Laser, giving it incredible damage potential for its size at the expense of crippling heat.

Deployed exclusively by ComStar, the HER-5C makes use of an XL engine in addition to the -5S upgrades to mount an ER Large Laser in place of the Ultra AC and replaces the single Medium Pulse Laser with a trio of Extended Range models. The Flamer is also removed in favor of a NARC Launcher and a C3i unit was added while leftover tonnage was devoted to armor and another heat sink.

It unfortunately sheds armor to do so, making it a fragile sniper.

One of a number of upgraded chassis widely sold to the rest of the Inner Sphere, the -5S model takes advantage of new technologies such as Endo-Steel and Double Heat Sinks to increase the venerable 'Mech's payload, as it is now armed with an Ultra Autocannon/5 and a Medium Pulse Laser in place of the previous versions of those weapons while retaining the original Flamer.

Leftover spoils from the massive armament trade during the Clan Invasion, the Davion Light Guards have their own model called the -6D which replaces the Ultra Autocannon for a Rotary model and swaps the Pulse Laser for an ER model.
