Description

The Ymir is the first homegrown Lyran Commonwealth BattleMech. Then-known as the Bipedal Weapon Platform, the Ymir first saw action in 2462 and was roughly based on a slimming of the Mackie's basic frame. While primitive by modern standards, the Ymir eventually grew into a capable, fast, agile assault mech in its own right. The Ymir BWP-2B became the stock model starting in 2475. Armed with an AC/5, Large Laser, 2 LRM-5s, and 4 SRM-2s, the Ymir had weapons for any situation. However, the heat sinks struggled during heavy combat.

The Ymir BWP-2E was introduced in 2478 and sported a pair of PPCs alongside a SRM-6 and LRM-10, providing reliable firepower on a fast heavy frame. However, the -2E's 16 heat sinks could not handle the heat and were quickly overtaxed.

While primitive by modern standards, the Ymir eventually grew into a capable, fast, agile assault mech in its own right. The Ymir BWP-3A was introduced in 2733 and sported a pair of Large Lasers alongside an Artemis IV-enabled SRM-6 and LRM-10, providing reliable firepower. Additionally, the -3A upgraded to Double Heat Sinks, ensuring ice-cold operation.

Description

The Ymir is the first homegrown Lyran Commonwealth BattleMech. Then-known as the Bipedal Weapon Platform, the Ymir first saw action in 2462 and was roughly based on a slimming of the Mackie's basic frame. The Ymir BWP-X1 is the original primitive design, armed with a battery of SRMs, LRMs, an AC/5, a Large Laser, and a pair of Flamers, the X1 was theoretically equipped for any combat but in reality was slow, badly armored, and overheated in heavy combat. It was quickly upgraded to the -2B standard and the X1 was forgotten.
