Description

The Lancelot was originally conceived in response to a Star League Defense Force contract for a BattleMech that could operate with minimal logistical support, was fast enough to take part in mobile operations and packed sufficient firepower to be a viable threat on the battlefield. Krupp Technologies got the speed (97 kph) and firepower right, but the armor leaves much to be desired. Armed with a PPC and dual Large Lasers as well as a Medium Laser, the Lancelot can reliably deal with many of its equals but the limited armor is a great hindrance.

Description

A rare Star League Defense Forces variant of the Lancelot, the LNC25-01sl replaces the PPC and Large Lasers of the -01 with a trio of ER Large Lasers. It also adds ferro-fibrous armor for extra protection and uses the tonnage saved over the -01 for extra heat sinks. This model was extremely rare and only to be found in the Star League's Royal regiments, which either left with Kerensky or stayed behind to form ComStar's protective forces in the wake of the Amaris Civil War.

Description

The Lancelot did not survive the loss of Star League technology as well as most of its older cousins. While it kept the weaponry of the -01, it lost the XL engine and double heat sinks, requiring a swap to a much slower 240-rated engine and to 19 single heat sinks. This made it an easy target thanks to the still low armor. Additionally, the much worse heat dissipation led the mech to be very prone to overheating. Still, this was the variant that largely survived the Succession Wars, though it come out of it with a well-earned bad reputation.

Description

Conceived due to equipment shortages, the LNC25-03 is a simple swap. Removing the Large Lasers and replacing them with a pair of AC/5s and a ton of ammo as well as slowing the mech to 84 kph allowed for much better heat control and for more tonnage to be devoted to armor, making the -03 an excellently armored design. However, the loss of firepower was noted and led to the design being largely abandoned outside of the Draconis Combine, where it remained in service, for better or worse.

Description

This variant of the Lancelot is a completely upgraded version, built to utilize the improved C3 computer in use by ComStar and the Word of Blake. In addition to using an Endo-Steel chassis and added a half-ton of armor, the particle cannon and large lasers were upgraded to Extended Range models. In order to make room for these sweeping changes the medium laser was removed. The Lancelot's tradtional speed is retained, of course.

Description

The 25-05 is a curious variant of the traditionally energy-based Lancelot primarily aimed at fighting conventional forces. The medium laser and two heat sinks have been replaced with four Machine Guns and a full ton of ammunition. The armor has not been upgraded, and the 25-05 Lancelot has the same speed profile as the older 25-01 model. It retains the PPC and Large Lasers for fighting other mechs, however.

Description

A bit of a mercenary twist on the venerable Lancelot, this LNC25-07 was developed by a middling mercenary group that had a need for fire support but needed it indirect. The -07 starts like a normal Lancelot LNC25-01: 2 Large Lasers and a Medium Laser provide no-frills firepower. However, a pair of MML-7s mix up the Lancelot's normal role with missiles instead of the typical PPC. A drop to a 300 rated engine provides the tonnage required for the MMLs, their attendant 4 tons of ammo, and the two CASE II systems that protect them. The armor is typical Lancelot fare.

Description

Built during the Clan's Golden Century, the Lancelot C is a Clan twist on the mech made for a role that eventually the Clans had no use for. The Lancelot C was meant for harassment and light bullying but was eventually outclassed and left behind as a solahma and garrison mech. Still, it appeared in toumans over the following centuries. The Lancelot C is built to Clan standards and with all Clan technology. A simple armament of triple Large Pulse Lasers provides clean, accurate, firepower at any range.

The Lancelot C was meant for harassment and light bullying but was eventually outclassed and left behind as a solahma and garrison mech. Still, it appeared in toumans over the following centuries. The Lancelot C 2 is built to Clan standards and with all Clan technology. A pair of ER Large Lasers and an ER PPC let the C 2 be an effective sniper. A pair of Flamers are an odd choice given Clan combat doctrine. A MASC boosts the mech's prodigous speed even further.
