Description

One of LAW's most recent attempts to upgrade the Mauler to modern standards, the MAL-1K uses some of the best technology available to Luthien Armor Works. Armed with the same LRM-15s as the MAL-1R, the -1K swaps the autocannons for a quartet of Light AC/5s while upgrading the arm lasers to Snub-Nose PPCs. However, CASE had to be abandoned on this variant due to limited space and tonnage, even with an XL engine and Ferro-Fibrous armor. Still, the -1K proved effective and saw widespread production.

Description

One of LAW's most recent attempts to upgrade the Mauler to modern standards, the MAL-1K uses some of the best technology available to Luthien Armor Works. However, this is the MAL-1KX, an experimental fork of the -1K. Armed with the same Snub-Nose PPCs, LRM-15s, and Light AC/5s, the -1KX was an attempt to increase the armor protection even further. It uses a Small Cockpit and Endo-Steel construction to do this. However, the lack of CASE and the cramped cockpit, as well as the costs of construction, relegated the -1KX to a limited production run.

Description

Developed in the early 3000s by Earthwerks Incorporated after a House Liao request for proposals for more powerful mechs than the CCAF's backbone Vindicator, the Mauler was designed to destroy targets at ranges they could not respond from. Armed with a battery of AC/2s and LRM-15s, it excelled at this task. However, Earthwerks' other entry, the Cataphract, proved cheaper and more effective at conventional ranges and so the Mauler was not selected for production, eventually being sold to the Draconis Combine where it would become the Daboku and then later revert to the Mauler once more.

Description

The Daboku, the original Kuritan take on the Mauler, was generally considered a failure and was later rebranded as the Mauler once redesigned. However, the Federated Suns managed to acquire several of the early Dabokus via battlefield salvage in the 3030s. Designating them as the Mauler (as the Federated Suns had encountered the design being fielded by the original designers, House Liao), the Suns swapped out the Daboku's LRM racks for a quartet of SRM-4s (along with extra heat sinks) and put them into service on the Combine and Confederation borders where they proved mediocre, just like the Daboku did. The MAL-1X-AFFC was quietly shuffled off to garrison regiments and forgotten about after it proved unimpressive.

Description

After trade agreements with the Draconis Combine ensured the Federated Suns had access to the Mauler MAL-2R it was only natural that the AFFS would further experiment with the design. Given the Davion love of autocannons and given that the Rotary Autocannons had been recently developed, the Mauler made an ideal testbed. Armed with a quartet of Rotary AC/2s, as well as four ER Medium Lasers and two MRM-10s (also available via trade agreements with the Combine), the MAL-2D proved dangerous. However, it had minimal weapon endurance and ended up being shelved after relations with the Combine soured.

Description

The Mauler 2K attempts to turn the assault 'Mech into a walking missile repository. The LRM15s of the original are downgraded to 10-racks, and in place of the autocannons, two MRM10s and two pairs of SRM racks per torso are added, giving each torso 10 of each missile type for combat at all ranges. A pair of ER Medium Lasers rounds out the 2K's weaponry, and two additional double heat sinks compared to the original help keep it cooler.

Description

The -2R variant of the Mauler uses relatively new weapons. The standard AC/2s are replaced with Ultra versions, doubling their potential damage. Paired ER Medium Lasers are fitted in arms formerly housing the ER Large Lasers. The missile launchers are reduced to smaller LRM-10s. A heavier standard fusion engine is utilized instead of the expensive XL.

Description

The -3R variant of the Mauler upgrades the design and addresses the concerns of pilots that used the -1R model. The four Autocannon/2s have been replaced with a pair of LB-X Autocannon/10s. The ER Large Lasers were removed from the design, but the MAL-3R retains the two LRM-15 launchers of its predecessor. Also incorporated in the design is a single Small Laser and a C3 Slave unit, the latter of which allows the -3R to use targeting data from units that are closer to the enemy and vice versa. It also has a ninety meter jump capability.

Description

Designed by the Lyran Alliance to serve as a mobile artillery piece in places where conventional vehicles could not reach, the Mauler-3L carries as its main weaponry a pair of massive Snipers. For close-range defense, the mech carries four Medium Pulse Lasers. The -3S's biggest downside is that the designers were forced to skimp on ammo, with the Snipers only having one pitiful ton each.

Based loosely on the old MAL-1R and MAL-3R specifications, this variant designed by Luthien Armor Works to utilize brand new technology comes equipped with two Defiance Bombast Lasers, two Irian Multi-Missile Launcher 7s with two tons of LRM ammo and two tons of SRM ammo, and two Mydron Light Autocannon/2s with two tons of ammo, It has been upgraded with Case II, and has sixteen tons of standard armor, three jump jets, and a light 270 engine.

Description

Designed by a maverick Ghost Bear warrior after facing off against dozens of Kuritan Maulers in the Clan Invasion, the Ghost Bear dubbed this, his final version of the Mauler, as the Mauler IIIIIC to represent the iterations he worked through. Using cutting edge Ghost Bear technology gathered from Trials of Possession, the Mauler-IIIIIC is as deadly as it gets with a simple loadout: a pair each of ER Large Pulse Lasers and Hyper-Assault Gauss Rifle-40s lay down withering firepower. 4 tons of ammo per HAG keep them firing regularly. However, the IIIIIC has severe heat issues, but if the enemy's dead, does it matter?

Description

The -C variant of the Mauler is a modification that was made to the -1R model to allow it to carry a C3 Slave unit into battle. This is achieved by removing one ton of autocannon ammunition. This small modification allows the Mauler to better fit into the Combine's military doctrine.

Description

Named after the famous Mauler used by Captain Zachary Miles Hawkins in the First Somerset Strikers. Hawkins had received his Daboku, FedCom reporting name Mauler, during the War of 3039 and he took it with him to Somerset with Adam Steiner, the events of which became known across the Inner Sphere. Though Knockout was reported destroyed in those events, it apparently resurfaced on the gladiator circuit some time later. Armed with two each LB-10X Autocannons, ER Large Lasers, and LRM-20s, Knockout's only problem is the extremely thin ammo stores.
