Description

After a run in with this mech, you'll be Praying too, though to a different god than the Praying Mantis does. Armed with the traditional Claws that have brought the Mantis so much arena glory, the Praying Mantis mixes it up with some Clan-spec Heavy Medium and Heavy Small Lasers. TSM increases the speed even further and boosts the power of the Claws to incredible heights. Though the Praying Mantis is small and fragile, it hits with a punch far beyond its weight, so don't underestimate it.

A Solaris VII turned mercenary BattleMech, the Mantis uses high speed (boosted by MASC) and powerful extended range lasers to slice off enemy armor. Once the Mantis is in grappling range, it can use the experimental Claw systems to literally tear an enemy apart. The Mantis's main weapon are its two tungsten-reinforced composite Claws. These are backed up by three ER Medium Lasers and two ER Small Lasers. As the lasers are mounted in the torso, the Mantis can always use the Claws.

Description

The Mantis's reputation as a fearsome light brawler in the Solaris arenas drew great attention to the design from prospective buyers, including the Dark Mirage project helmed by Professor Burke Kale. Dark Mirage purchased several Mantis chassis and retrofitted them with a Virtual Reality Piloting Pod for greater combat control as well as two each Medium and Small X-Pulse Lasers for even further enhanced accuracy. To do so, they had to remove half a ton of armor and the MASC system of the MTS-S but the advantages were deemed worth the trade-offs.
