Armed with a simple Large Laser and LRM-10, the Kyudo was simple, easy to maintain, and rugged, leading to its popularity with both troops and techs. However, the design used primitive components (the best available at the time, of course), and so eventually fell out of service when newer, more advanced, BattleMech designs came along. The Kyudo languished in backwater Periphery militias for centuries, finally being rendered mostly extinct by the Clan Invasion.
