| Details | Modular Armor was created as a stopgap measure by ComStar engineers. While researching Hardened Armor, the engineers stumbled across an ancient idea: By mounting a special frame on the unit, it could support additional armor protection on a Location beyond what the internal frame would normally allow. This provided bonus protection to the carrying unit but at the cost of taking extra weight and being ultimately less effective than a normal ton of armor, though Modular Armor can exceed the normal limits of armor on a mech's frame. Modular Armor proved bulky and makes piloting a mech carrying Modular Armor more difficult. |
