v18.4 (aka the "Ultralight Bonanza" patch) has been released to the installer. This patch is surprisingly chunky (it damn well better be after it took so long) so let's get to it.

v18.4.1 (aka the "Making Loki's Life Easier" patch) has been released to the installer. This patch isn't too complex, mostly bugfixes, but there's some new content in there for ya to enjoy too!

'''***VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE READ THIS:***''' This patch includes a *lot* of performances updates and code fixes. However, because of this, the installation process for this patch is a little unusual. You *must* follow these instructions (and you may still run into issues; if you do, please refer to the hotfixed-issues post or open up a ticket). *BEFORE YOU CLICK UPDATE IN THE INSTALLER* be sure that you manually verify your game files via Steam, GoG Galaxy, or Heroic Launcher. After you do the verification, delete your Mods folder (the folder itself, along with all its contents). At that point and ONLY at that point, you can open the installer and click Update.
+
'''LOST IN SPACE FIXED:''' There was a bug with Lost In Space, the mod that hides starsystems until the appropriate time, where systems were showing up on the map too early. This has been fixed, though it may not be retroactive to existing careers.

'''PERFORMANCE FIXES:''' One of the headliners for this patch, there have been a *lot* of performance updates on the backend. Many framework mods have been updated with new performance boosts, more than I care to list. However, the biggest area you should see performance increases is with the AI. The AI now makes its decisions *significantly* faster and in our testing is slightly more dangerous than it was before (probably because it's actually getting through its decision-making in full where before it may not have been). Give it a try and let us know how it plays, I suspect you'll be pleased.
+
'''HEAT LIMITED ADJUSTED:''' There have been reports that the external heat limit set by BTA in an earlier patch may not be functioning at present. So, we've tried a new adjustment that hopefully will fix it and bring the limit back into functionality.

'''NEW MECH:''' The Foxfire, a 15 ton Steiner ultralight, has roared into the fray. This ultralight is famous for its hardwired CT-mounted Firestorm Flamer and excels at bringing the heat. Keep an eye out for one with a unique artillery piece too, the Furyflame Cannon! You can buy the Foxfire from the Steiners on Hesperus II and their faction store or you can beat on House Steiner until they cough one up.
+
'''MORE ULTRALIGHT FLEAS:''' There are two new ultralight Flea variants, and one Flea has been renamed. The Flea FLE-23 has been renamed to the FLE-13. This was to make way for a new Flea FLE-23 (an ultralight), as well as the new Flea FLE-22 (also an ultralight). Yes I'm making Amid's life more annoying. Sorry buddy, love you! <3

'''NEW MECH:''' The Apollo, a 15 ton Marik ultralight, has combat slid into battle. This ultralight is unique among its kind in that it has nothing really going for it (other than looking sweet). It's fairly fast, fairly armed, fairly armored, and just kind of fairly decent all-around. You can get it from the House Marik faction store and from a factory on xx. You can also just shoot Mariks until they give you one, whatever works for you.
+
'''FIXED HERO SPAWNING:''' There were a number of hero variants that could not spawn in the arenas or in the ranks of the S7 Mercenary League, this has been fixed. Among them are all the ultralights, the Archangel, the Cyclone, the Hammerhands, the Hatamoto Chi, the Mist Lynx, the Piranha, the Prince Crab, the Shadow Cat, the Slagmaiden, both Stone Rhinos, the Stormcrow, the Summoner, the Timber Wolf, and the Warhammer IIC.

'''NEW MECH:''' The Mite, a 10 ton Davion ultralight designed to show off a specific engine, has sprinted behind your lines. This ultralight was designed after a prospector found over 1000 Hermes 100-rated engines on a backwater world and told Hanse Davion about it. They then built a factory on that world and started producing the Mite. It... isn't really armed for combat but it is very fast and has the same sensors quirk that the Ostscout has (they share a sensor system). You can buy Mites at that factory on the planet June and in the Davion faction store or you can shoot Feddies until they drop one for you to salvage.

'''NEW MECH:''' The Junior, a 10 ton Davion ultralight that is among the first of its kind, has finally rolled out of bed and come to the battle. This ultralight is one of the earliest and is a slow but well-armed (for its size) design. It's also super, super fun looking. If you want one, you can get them from a new factory on the planet Novaya Zemlya and in the Davion faction store, or you can shoot the Davions until one shows up and you can steal it.
+
'''NEW PIRATE FACTIONS:''' To facilitate a new idea, there are nine more pirate bands that have been added to BTAU. Included are the Abominari, Calderon's Commandos, Dedrickson's Devils, Forever Vigilant, Green Ghosts, The Dark, Hookworm's Highwaymen, Santander's Killers, and the Strychnine Slavers.

'''ULTRALIGHT DUELING CIRCUIT:''' Because we now have a full eight ultralight chassis, they have received their own gameworld dueling circuit to go along with the light, medium, heavy, and assault circuits. Ultralights can no longer be entered into the light-class duels and ultralight heroes (see below) cannot be won from the light-class duel rewards. You must have a 10-15 ton ultralight in order to enter the ultralight-class duels, so you may need to journey around to find one to buy.
+
'''NEW PIRATE GAMEPLAY:''' The pirate gameplay loop is a weird one in BTAU. It's very easy to lose reputation with the Aurigan Pirate faction and so lock yourself out of their storyline and the Black Market + other pirate stores. To that end, there has been an adjustment to the starmap. Instead of fighting the Aurigan Pirates (the "generic pirates" faction), in most of the map you will instead fight a specific pirate band, based on where you are. Each faction generally has a different unique pirate band in their space. These unique pirate bands do not have reputation and do not affect your standing with the owners of the black market (the "generic pirates"). You can still get work *from* the generic pirates and you can still ally them without issue. The following factions all have unique pirate bands (if a faction is not listed here, they either do not have a unique pirate group and instead have the generic pirates as OpFor still or simply do not fight the pirates at all): Lyran Commonwealth, Rim Worlds Republic, Terran Hegemony, Free Rasalhague Republic, Clan Nova Cat, Draconis Combine, Outworlds Alliance, Federated Suns, Taurian Concordat, Aurigan Reach, Capellan Confederation and St. Ives (these two share a pirate band), Free Worlds League, Magistracy of Canopus, Fronc Reaches, and Calderon Protectorate.

'''ULTRALIGHT HEROES:''' To go along with the new Ultralight Duel missions on the gameworlds, every ultralight in BTA has received a hero variant (including the Flea, Cherub, and even the Ambassador). These heroes can be won from winning 6 ultralight-class duels, same as any other gameworld hero is won. Note that you can *only* receive them from the ultralight duels, not the standard light duels.
+
'''**IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ABOVE**:''' The pirate changes are not retroactive to existing careers, they only work for new careers. If you want the new features, you must start a new career, nothing we can do about it.

'''ULTRALIGHT FIXES:''' So, the already-existing ultralights in BTAU had an issue. They were using 20 ton mech armor values, which is incorrect. This has been fixed and they have more accurate 10 and 15 ton maximum armor values (the exception is their rear armor, which can mount more than it should do; this is just to give you some options with your armor values if you want them). All existing ultralights (Slowpoke, Cherub, Stiletto, Flea, and Ambassador) had their stock configs updated as well, so if you had one of these in your mechbay please check to see if it now exceeds its armor limits and correct it accordingly.
+
'''AETHER FIXED:''' Aether had some incorrect ability tagging, which has been fixed.

'''ULTRALIGHT START:''' As long-rumored, now that we have enough ultralights, there is a new ultralight starting option. It places you on a 1-skull world in the Davion Outback and gives you nothing but 5 ultralights. Good luck Commander, yer gonna need it.
+
'''CLEANED UP FACTION WEB:''' Cleaned up some faction disagreements to make it more possible to have wider alliance webs.

'''TAG ADJUSTED, AGAIN:''' TAG (all forms, including Clan and BA) and C3 Master have been adjusted. Now, they all do the same thing: they apply two statuseffects to the target, one of which increases AoE damage taken and the other of which marks them for guided weaponry and ammunition (see below). No form of TAG or C3 Master applies an accuracy bonus, that has been completely removed and all TAG/C3M now do precisely the same thing as described above.
+
'''NEW MODEL:''' The 10-ton ultralight, the Mite, has been given a brand new model and it is *gorgeous*. Go get yourself a Mite and enjoy the most pod-on-legs mech you've ever seen!

'''GUIDED ARTILLERY:''' Artillery weapons have been adjusted once again. Now, the true artillery weapons (Arrow IV [IS and Clan both], Sniper, Thumper, and Long Tom [full pieces, not cannons]) now have a second fire mode, Guided mode. In Guided mode, they are same-turn firing weapons but they can only use one specific ammunition type (Homing for the Arrow IVs, Copperhead for the tubes). That ammo type does half damage and no AoE but does direct hits on the same turn you click fire (like every other weapon). However, the big trick here is that Guided ammos can only hit targets that have been marked by TAG or C3 Master as viable targets, otherwise they have functionally 0% chance to hit. If you want to use guided munitions on your artillery, you MUST hit your targets with TAG first.
+
'''MITE HARDPOINTS CHANGED:''' The Mite has had all its arm hardpoints removed on all variants and has had more torso and head hardpoints added, to go along with its new model.

'''SEMI-GUIDED LRM MUNITIONS:''' There is also a LRM ammunition that plays with this TAG system, called Semi-Guided LRM ammo. This can be found in stores. Semi-Guided can be fired without a TAG but has a substantial hit penalty making it worse than just using normal ammo. Against TAG'd targets though Semi-Guided LRM ammo is exceptionally accurate. Consider this a bonus for the new TAG guided munitions system.
+
* M-Pod and A-Pod now have proper ammo costs. Whoopsie!
 +
* Gameworlds now spawn a couple more duels every cycle.
 +
* Updated Omni Hardpoint to specify that it does not include superweapons.

'''LOCATION OF THE NEW GUIDED AMMOS:''' If you want a head-start on buying these new arty and LRM munitions, you can do so in normal stores (where they appear alongside other artillery and LRM ammos like usual) and in the following faction stores: Liao (Arrow IV Homing); Hanseatic League and Scorpion Empire (tube artillery Copperhead); Free Worlds League (LRM Semi-Guided).
+
'''IMPORTANT:''' v18.4.1 is an "update" update. In this case, clear your Mods folder manually and then run the installer, it'll do the work for you.

'''CALLED SHOT FIXED:''' Yes, we have fixed called shot's accuracy bug. It now reports accuracy correctly as it used to do! Hurrahs!
+
'''IMPORTANT:''' v18.4.1 is not a save breaking update, your saves are compatible and will work fine.

'''THE DOCTOR AND THE RAPTORS:''' Our custom pilot Doctor offers you a unique mission against a merceary unit named The Raptors... but when you do the mission it's not that company. This has been fixed, now the mercenary company The Raptors exists just for that one mission. And yes, they only field Raptor OmniMechs, that's the entire point of the mission and the merc unit.

'''REDUCED TRAVEL DISTANCES:''' The Sanctuary Worlds have had their internal travel distances reduced by about half on most of their planets. This will not apply to existing careers as map data is "baked in" and doesn't change after career start but it WILL apply to any new careers started on the new patch.

'''NEW EXTENDED CONTRACT:''' VIP Hunt, a rapid fire Extended Contract that consists of 3 back-to-back assassination missions, and it really is back-to-back, they happen on consecutive days with zero downtime. Come prepared to hunt the VIP, Commander.

'''COMMUNITY CONTENT:''' There is a bunch of new CC this patch, with a new Great Turtle variant as well as the Unnsvin II (a superheavy variant of the Unnsvin that is purchasable from the FRR faction store). Additionally, there is a new Colossal Turtle, Goliath, Hunchback, and UrbanMech, all with superweapon hardpoints. Finally, there's a new CC superweapon, the MLRS (a gigantic AoE inferno rocket launcher thing), several of the new mechs carry it.

* Amidatelion has been added to the Pioneering Comrades background option during character creation.

* The Slagmaiden's shield gun (only exists on certain variants) has had its ammo prices adjusted to more reasonable levels.

* Acid ammos have had their descriptions updated such that it is more clear what their maximum effect can be.

* Slowpoke recieved an affinity, whoops! (It's Cool-Running, if you're curious.)

* C3 Master now tells you it takes a slot in the CT.

* FTL now properly has its accuracy penalty as originally intended (it is less accurate but clusters much better and either all hits or none hits).

* Urbie Derby start was missing some UrbanMechs, that's been corrected.

* Sharmat is properly excluded from the starting roster and the hiring hall so you can only get him as intended via his event.

* Two new Kuritan-exclusive Stilettos exist, the -11K and -12K, hurrah!

'''IMPORTANT:''' v18.4 is bit of a special patch. Please see the installation instructions at the start of these patch notes.

'''IMPORTANT:''' v18.4 is not a save breaking update, your saves are compatible and will work fine.
