One of the Federated Suns' first BattleMech designs, the Battleaxe was a much maligned mech in its era and remains as such today. The original variant, the primitive BKX-1X, was oddly a much better balanced mech than its later 'upgrades'. Armed with two each of Large Lasers, LRM-5s, and Machine Guns, with a solitary SRM-6, the BKX-1X had a weapon for all ranges. 19 standard heat sinks kept the mech moderately cooled and it was acceptably armored for its era. One of the Federated Suns' first BattleMech designs, the Battleaxe was a much maligned mech in its era and remains as such today. Armed with dual PPCs, dual LRM-5s, and a SRM-6, as well as a quartet of jump jets, the Battleaxe looks good on paper. However, it's thin armor and terrible heat management make the mech ineffective at best and eventually led to the mech's removal from service. Still, a few original model Battleaxes can still be found running around in Davion militias and out in the Periphery. | One of the Federated Suns' first BattleMech designs, the Battleaxe was a much maligned mech in its era and remains as such today. One of the Federated Suns' first BattleMech designs, the Battleaxe was a much maligned mech in its era and remains as such today. This variant, the -7NC, was named the No Crash because it removes the sometimes problematic Jump Jets of the base BKX-7K for an extra pair of LRM-5s, bringing the total up to 4 launchers. The dual PPCs and the sole SRM-6 remain, as does the terrible heat and poor armor. | One of the Federated Suns' first BattleMech designs, the Battleaxe was a much maligned mech in its era and remains as such today. Description
One of the Federated Suns' first BattleMech designs, the Battleaxe was a much maligned mech in its era but thanks to a series of upgrades this, the BKX-8K, is a much more functional design. Still armed with the same core weapons, PPCs, LRM-5s, and a SRM-6, the upgrade of the -8K is focused around heat management and armor increases. The old Battleaxe fielded 9 tons of armor and 15 standard heat sinks, where the -8K fields 12.5 tons of armor and 15 double heat sinks. This doubles the mechs heat capacity and greatly boosts its durability. The BKX-8K proved a success and went on to serve with dignity in Davion formations.
