Thanks to the SPAM sub-mod for BTA (please read its entry in the FAQ for details about the sub-mod and what it does), BTA has now added a large volume of mercenary commands and pirate bands as eligible sub-factions for players to encounter during gameplay. For the curious, a list of the mercenary commands is below so you can know where you can fight any given mercenary or pirate group. Also, if a mercenary command has anything special about it, it will be specifically noted on their entry on the list. The list will be organized by "parent" faction (i.e. the faction that the listed mercs work for, so a mercenary unit listed under the Capellan Confederation heading can be found as a SPAM replacement on missions against the Capellan Confederation). Unless otherwise noted, *all* of these factions also work for Local Government and the "generic" Mercenaries faction currently found in BTA. Finally, unless otherwise noted, *all* of these factions are true and canon BattleTech mercenary and pirate units, all of which have backgrounds that can be found on Sarna for your reading pleasure. | Thanks to the SPAM sub-mod for BTA (please read its entry in the FAQ for details about the sub-mod and what it does), BTA has now added a large volume of mercenary commands and pirate bands as eligible sub-factions for players to encounter during gameplay. Mercenary Factions For SPAM
Word of Blake
Broadsword Legion
Broadsword Legion Personality: PROFESSIONAL MRB Rating: 6
|
The Broadsword Legion is a recently created mercenary unit composed of ex-ComGuard officers and soldiers who chose to resign rather than serve under Victor Steiner-Davion upon his nomination as Precentor Martial of ComStar. Most of the Broadsword Legion's members were formally of the ComGuard's 166th Division and fought against Clan Wolf during the Battle of Tukayyid, giving them a keen insight into the Clan threat.
Burr's Black Cobras
Burr's Black Cobras Personality: PROFESSIONAL MRB Rating: 6
|
Burr's Black Cobras have a long and checkered history, starting as Baldwin's Cobras Heavy Brigade, changing to the Crater Cobras, and then finally to Burr's Black Cobras under Colonel Burr. After being effectively betrayed by the Free Worlds League in 3061, the Black Cobras have found paying work with the Word of Blake, who respect the unit's long and difficult history.
51st Dark Panzer Jaegers
51st Dark Panzer Jaegers Personality: PROFESSIONAL MRB Rating: 8

Forged from soldiers cast adrift by the whims of the Clan Invasion, the Fist of Mokal was discarded by their prior employer after some rather bad decisions by the unit vis a vis civilians. With no one to turn to, the Fist was eventually hired by the Word of Blake.
Hsien Hotheads
Hsien Hotheads Personality: PROFESSIONAL MRB Rating: 6
|
Originally founded in the wake of the Amaris Civil War, the Hsien Hotheads eventually were trapped in a dead-end contract to the Lyran Commonwealth when, inexplicably, they managed to buy out their contract. The Hotheads then disappeared for 8 years before resurfacing in 3061 under contract to the Word of Blake.
Simonson's Cutthroats
Simonson's Cutthroats Personality: PROFESSIONAL MRB Rating: 2
|
A command with a troubled past, Simonson's Cutthroats has only recently reappeared. In 3055, after a distastrous engagement with a pirate force, the Cutthroats vanished into the Deep Periphery, presumably never to be seen again. However, in 3061 the Cutthroats reappeared in the Chaos March and signed a contract with the Word of Blake.
Capellan Confederation (Liao)
Always Faithful
Always Faithful Personality: PROFESSIONAL MRB Rating: 8
|
Always Faithful was formed by a group of ex-SLDF and ex-Rim Worlds regular troops in the wake of the Amaris Civil War and has been in service to many of the Great Houses ever since. The regiment's reputation may not be sterling but they're known for getting the job done and done well.
Langendorf Lancers
Langendorf Lancers Personality: PROFESSIONAL MRB Rating: 10
|
The Langendorf Lancers were formed by merchant cartels on the planet of Calloway VI for mutual defense, but were eventually transferred to the Free Worlds League as a traditional mercenary command when they proved too troublesome for the merchants to handle. However, in 3058 the Capellan Confederation bought out their contract and so the Lancers changed affiliation.

Together, they formed a mercenary command, the Blue Star Irregulars, and chose the most noble of available masters to serve, House Davion, whom they have served for nearly 300 years since.
12th Vegan Rangers
12th Vegan Rangers Personality: ULTRA-PROFESSIONAL MRB Rating: 3

Led by Sven Harlock, the criminals quickly realized they were sent to die and made a pact with some local bandits to escape and seek better fortunes elsewhere, turning into a respectable mercenary command in the decades since.
Screaming Eagles
Screaming Eagles Personality: PROFESSIONAL MRB Rating: 8
|
The Screaming Eagles have been dogged by controversy and bad luck for years now. Originally founded by SLDF members in the wake of the Star League's fall and finding themselves in service to the Davions for centuries, the Screaming Eagles left Davion service only to be betrayed and have their reputation crippled by their new employer's duplicity. Today, they're back in Davion service as the only House willing to work with them again.

|
The founder of the Vanguard Legion blamed the Lyran Commonwealth for forsaking his original unit during the Clan Invasion, leading to their destruction, and so his new Vanguard Legion developed a bitter hate of the Lyran state. One of the most legendary mercenary companies in the Inner Sphere, the Kell Hounds were founded in 3010 by Morgan and Patrick Kell. They continued to grow and prosper until 3016, with a climactic duel between Morgan Kell and Yorinaga Kurita of the Draconis Combine's Second Sword of Light. The fight ended in a draw after an improbable series of events prevented Kurita from targeting Kell's 'Mech. Shortly thereafter, Morgan Kell abruptly disbanded two-thirds of the Kell Hounds and consigned himself to a life of exile in a relgious retreat on Zaniah for a time. Currently, the Kell Hounds are managed by Morgan once again and serve as the wardens of the Arc-Royal Defense Cordon against the Jade Falcons.

Together they've found common cause and have been spotted causing trouble throughout the region.
